About Bill

Bill graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics.  He received his Masters Degree and Ph.D in mathematics from Harvard University.  He taught college level mathematics for nine years.  His teaching included classes ranging from introductory mathematics to advanced seminars for senior mathematics majors.

Bill then embarked on a career in computer and network security, first as a researcher and security engineer, and then in progressively more senior management positions. He served on government policy making groups in information security and participated in groups setting national research objectives.

In 1988 Bill founded Arca Systems, one of the first companies specializing in information security. He served as the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Arca Systems where he played an active role recruiting a world class staff of information security engineers and researchers. He guided Arca through 10 successful years and then negotiated its acquisition by Exodus Communications where he served as an executive running research and consulting groups.

Since leaving Exodus, Bill has been advising new companies on areas such as product strategy, funding, and executive recruiting.

Bill has also been active in youth sports and other youth activities.  He has served as a coach in baseball and soccer.  He also was a coach for a local middle school team in Destination Imagination.  He held various volunteer positions including serving as President of Cupertino National Little League.

More recently Bill has returned to the classroom to teach mathematics at De Anza College, This experience has given him an even deeper appreciation of the opportunities afforded by our community colleges and some of the challenges students face.  As a result, he is working to expand on the collaboration between FUHSD and community colleges so that the transition to college can be as seamless as possible.
